Understanding Reiki

Origin and history

In history, the principles of Reiki find their origin in Tibet. But it was in the year 1922 that Mikao Usui (who practiced a 21-day Buddhist training on Mount Kurama) had this "revelation". Mikao's training encompassed practices such as meditation, prayer, fasting and chanting.

Usui returned from his training saying that he received the gift of transferring the life energy he received through his Crown Chakra (or Sahasrara) to another person, rebalancing physical, spiritual, and emotional problems. In the same year, Mikao Usui moved to Tokyo, where he founded the "Usui Reiki Ryōhō Gakkai," which, translated, means "Usui Therapeutic Spiritual Energy Method Society."

Usui taught the system he called "Reiki" to over 2000 people during his lifetime. Sixteen of his students continued that training to reach the third level.

Fundamentals

Before starting the Reiki session, the Reikian (person who will apply the technique) will do an energetic cleaning in the work environment, in order to leave the place vibrating in feelings of love and spiritual harmony.

Then, he will work his imposition of hands, always following the fundamentals or principles of Reiki, in order for the assisted to rebalance their energy and their chakras. Reiki Symbols

In the original Reiki, created by Mikao Usui, there are three symbols which are passed on in a level 2 initiation. The level 3 symbol was worked on by his 16 students. The symbols are like keys, able to open deep levels of the body and mind.

These keys work different energetic fields, involving the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. They are:

  • Cho-Ku-Rei - physical and etheric body;
  • Sei-He-Ki - emotional body;
  • Hon-Sha-Ze-Sho-Nen - mental field;
  • Dai-Koo-Myo - spiritual body.
  • The symbols, as well as the principles of Reiki, will only have an effect after study and knowledge of the Reiki master. Traditional Reiki has long worked with these 4 symbols, but other branches use many others. In Amadeus Shamanic Reiki (based on Tupi-Guarani elements), for example, about 20 symbols are used.

    Reiki levels

    Reiki levels is the name used to talk about the different stages that the practitioner must go through, during training. When the levels are passed, the practitioner understands the theory and practice of therapy. Traditional Reiki has levels 1, 2 and 3, plus a master's degree. After these stages, the practitioner is considered a Reiki master.

    The duration of each level will depend on the method used by the master who gives the course. However, all work with a combination of theory and practice. Practice is fundamental for the progression of the level, as it is from this that the student experiences the principles of Reiki.

    4th principle of Reiki: "Just for today I work honestly"

    The "working honestly" of the 4th principle of Reiki not only talks about being dignified in your work, but also about fulfilling the duties that your own conscience demands. To be at peace with yourself is to be in agreement with what your conscience says.

    Procrastination and laziness are devastating to physical and mental health. Therefore, the fourth of the Reiki principles reminds you that keeping on top of your work and everything that encompasses it is an excellent way to keep body and mind in balance. In this case, the satisfaction of the task accomplished strengthens.

    5th principle of Reiki: "Just for today I am kind"

    "Kindness begets kindness" should not be seen just as an exhaustively repetitive phrase, but as a new philosophy of life. According to the 5th principle of Reiki, kindness creates a very positive and happy internal and external environment. Being kind to oneself and to others generates mutual happiness and pleasure.

    In this way, the last of the Reiki principles speaks about the importance of attention and care for others and yourself. Furthermore, it reveals the need to be kind to everything on the planet. Kindness can be offered to everything and everyone, and you yourself are the great beneficiary of this situation.

    How to apply the 5 principles of Reiki?

    To apply the principles of Reiki, always set aside a small moment in your days to sit and breathe. You will feel love without distinctions coming out of your chest and filling the environment around you and it will continue expanding everywhere.
