Life of St. Benedict

Saint Benedict of Norcia was born in Italy in 480. Coming from a wealthy family, he went to study in Rome at the age of 13. However, not being used to the promiscuity of the place, Benedict decided to leave the city and isolate himself to live the religious life with more dedication.

Committed to living religious principles, Saint Benedict was responsible for founding several monasteries, such as Monte Cassino (529). The monasteries, to this day, are known for having a bakery, cheese factory and vegetable garden, places where people perform various trades. Saint Benedict of Murcia died on March 21, 547, in the city of Monte Cassino, Italy. In 1964, however, he was named Patron Saint of Europe, a title given by Pope Paul VI.

Attempted murder

Upon moving to Rome, Benedict met a hermit who was responsible for passing on all his knowledge to the young man. Sent to a holy cave located in Subiaco, Benedict learned many things and dedicated his time to prayer and study for three years.
