Why do the pomegranate sympathy?

Despite not being a very popular fruit in Brazil, the pomegranate has several health benefits, and on top of that it is full of symbologies and meanings, being its use and consumption widely used in the end of year festivities. The pomegranate is often related to wealth and abundance. Most of these sympathies performed on New Year's Eve are to attract money and prosperity.

The origin of these rituals comes from the three Magi, Balthazar, Gaspar and Belchior who made a journey to visit the baby Jesus, carrying with them each a different gift, being gold, myrrh and frankincense.

Therefore it became a tradition during Christmas Day until January 6 to perform the three magi sympathies using the pomegranate, or consume the pulp of its fruit seeds as a form of religious devotion.

Not necessarily all sympathies with this exotic fruit must necessarily be done during the period of the new year, there are some that can be performed on any day and time of year.

More about the pomegranate sympathy

Although pomegranate is not a very popular fruit in Brazil, being used mainly only on New Year's Eve parties, in certain regions of Europe, Middle East and Asia Minor its consumption is very popular and it is used for medicinal purposes. In the following topics we will talk a little more about this exotic fruit, its benefits and uses in various cultures and religions.

Benefits of Pomegranate

The pomegranate is a fruit that contains a lot of vitamin C, vitamin K, B vitamins, fiber and folic acid which helps our immune system. It has antioxidants that help our body fight free radicals that can bring premature aging, and severe diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

The tea made with its peels is widely used to treat sore throat. In addition, the fruit has antibacterial and antifungal properties, and can prevent gingivitis or periodontitis.

Pomegranate also has several other benefits such as improving memory, reducing blood pressure, protects against heart disease, prevents the development of some types of cancer such as breast or prostate, relieves rheumatoid arthritis, improves bone health, aids in weight loss, fights facial acne and finally aids in scalp growth.

Pomegranate in the Bible

In the Bible, the pomegranate is linked to Christian love, the virginity of Mary and divine fullness. It is considered a divine fruit, it appears in some passages of the Bible, one of them in the Old Testament, about the ornaments of the high priests of Israel, which were adorned with drawings of pomegranates:

"You shall make the surplice of the robe of the priestly vest all of blue cloth; in the middle of it shall be an opening for the head; the opening shall be hemmed in like the opening of a skirt, that it may not be torn. All around the edge of the surplice you shall make pomegranates of blue cloth, purple, and crimson; and golden bands in the middle of them.

And there shall be upon the edge of the surplice a golden ring, and a pomegranate, and another golden ring, and another pomegranate; and the surplice shall be upon Aaron when he does his work, that the sound of it may be heard, when he goes into the sanctuary before the LORD, and when he comes out, that he die not" (Exodus 28:31, 35)

The Bible also tells about the journey of the Jews from Egypt to the promised land, which when they found a pomegranate they were sure that this was the land that Jehovah had destined for them. Pomegranates are also found carved in the famous Temple of Solomon located in Jerusalem. In Catholicism the fruit should be eaten on January 6, the Day of Kings.

Pomegranate in Greek Mythology and Ancient Rome

In Greek mythology the pomegranate was related to the Goddess Hera who represented marriage and women, and to the Goddess Aphrodite who symbolized love and sexuality. This fruit is also strongly linked to the Goddess Persephone, the goddess of agriculture, fertility, flora and nature.

The story goes that Persephone was kidnapped by her uncle Hades, the god of the dead, and so when she arrived in the underworld she refused to eat any food there. This was because the law in the world of the dead admitted fasting and whoever died due to starvation could not return to the world of the immortals.

However, when she knew that soon she would be leaving that place she ended up eating three pomegranate seeds, which are associated with sin and union which consequently preserved her stay in hell every three months of the year, which respectively equals to winter.

We can say that the factor of descending to the world of the dead and eating the fruit of the pomegranate makes Persephone become a full woman and not an innocent maiden. Already during Ancient Rome the pomegranate symbolizes nobility and law.

It was a food that was always present at large parties and banquets. At weddings it was quite common to see the bride and groom wearing crowns made with pomegranate branches.

Pomegranate in Judaism

The pomegranate has a total of 613 seeds in its flesh, just as the holy book "Torah" has 613 Jewish proverbs called "Mitzvots". In the Jewish tradition during the holiday of "Rosh Hashanah", which is officially the day that starts the Jewish New Year, it is common to consume pomegranates, representing prosperity and fertility.

When King Solomon built his temple near the Wailing Wall, he had pomegranates carved on its columns. With the construction of the grand palace, the Jews began to take pomegranates and other foods to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, which celebrates the thanksgiving to God for the bountiful harvests after the Passover period.

Pomegranate in Masonry

In Masonry, the pomegranate symbolizes friendship and union among Masons, and just as its grains are united, it is a fruit that represents brotherhood and the desire to always help the other. In Masonic lodges it is very common to see pomegranates carved on their columns precisely representing the union of heaven and earth.

For the Freemasons the pomegranate seeds also symbolize their essence as a human being in flesh and blood, with the pulp symbolizing the flesh, the juice is the blood and the seeds their bones.

As well as the fruit is very resistant to impacts both in its external and internal part before its seeds totally stacked one on top of the other also symbolizes the resistance of the Freemasons as to profane life and temptation, besides being very discreet people.

There is a Masonic magazine called "The Troll" and in its 300th issue there is an article called "The Symbolism of the Pomegranate", in it we can have a clear notion of what the pomegranate means to the Freemasons:

"The pomegranate is one and at the same time multiple. Its grains are rutile, united, fruitful, each one occupying its place harmoniously in the space reserved for it within its compartment, like the Freemasons. Like a biological tissue, composed of millions of cells. Removed a tiny part, it continues to exist, but the missing part leaves its imprint on the shape of the neighboring parts.

Like a microcosm, like a mirror of the Universe, where all the components complete each other, need each other, attract and influence each other.

And the compartments, so many in number, and surprising, seeming endless, if on the one hand they appear to be isolated from each other, are in truth intimately connected, because they form part of the same whole, like the different Masonic Lodges, which, though they have their own life, serve the same purpose and form one whole."

As much as all Masons are divided in all corners of the world, they are part of the same body, just like the whole pomegranate which is made up of several stones.

Pomegranate Sympathy

Not all sympathies need to be done during the festive period and transition of the new year. There are certain rituals that can be done during any time of year, however respecting the right day and time determined by the recipe to which you chose. To understand more about these types of sympathies, check out the topics below.

Indications

There are two types of sympathy that can be done at different times of the year. One of them can be done to attract the man of your dreams or that crush that you're in love, but you feel a little insecure to a closer approach. The other sympathy that can also be done at any time of year is the ritual of prosperity for you as well as for the environment in which you live.

Ingredients

The sympathy to leave the man in love needs only four pomegranate seeds. As for the mandinga to obtain prosperity you need a copy of a note of money preferably high, yellow paper, a pencil or pen, scissors, a white plate, 21 bay leaves, a handful of sage leaves, cloves powder, cinnamon powder, powdered ginger, and a whole pomegranate.

How to do

To leave the man you want to fall for you, do this sympathy on a night of new moon. Take four grains of pomegranate and put them under the tongue while saying the name of the person you love four times. This should be done in the same place where your crush is. After that walk by him, either greeting or talking and swallow the grains.

Now the sympathy for prosperity you need to make a photocopy of a high note on yellow paper, and on a Sunday at noon draw a six-pointed star on top of money xerocado and around it a circle. Then with scissors cut out the circle and at each end of the star write "Prosperus". After filling all the tips, write in the middle of the star "Prosperitatis".

Place the yellow paper on a white plate and on top of it put the 21 bay leaves, the sage leaves, the clove powder, a pinch of cinnamon powder, some ginger powder and the whole pomegranate. Say 21 times "Ego prosperus, ego tessere prosperitatis".

Then, take the full plate and place it on top of a tall piece of furniture. Keep in mind that you should not tell anyone about this ritual, otherwise it will fail. In case you move house, wrap the plate well and place it on a tall piece of furniture in your new dwelling.

What if the pomegranate sympathy doesn't work?

Regardless of the sympathy that you performed, sometimes it may take a certain time for it to start its effect, or simply happen that it does not work. If the undesirable occurs, review the step by step of the sympathy that you did, if you did not miss or skip any step.

Also keep in mind that no matter how much the sympathy is performed, there is no point in doing its step by step and not put your faith and devotion on it. Or try to do it, but be with your head full of negative thoughts or with your mind unfocused elsewhere. If you do not have the head to be able to do your sympathy, leave it for another day than risk it and it ends up not going out as it should.

Finally remember, nothing falls from the sky without effort. Don't think that doing your mandinga will free you from putting your effort to the test of what you want. Have determination, a lot of guts and boldness, after all, "God helps the early riser. There is no success without putting your own effort, so work hard, and soon your prayers will be heard.
