Why do the ritual for the full moon?

The full moon is a time of power. For this reason, it is celebrated through rituals in many cultures due to its magic and energy. With the arrival of the full moon, new portals are opened and from them, it is possible to bring about changes in our lives, releasing unwanted energies and taking advantage of what we have created since the new moon.

Moreover, everything that is done on the full moon reaches its maximum energy. It is therefore a moment of revelation, when part of what was hidden finally shows its face and gains the world.

In religions like Wicca, the full moon is also a sacred time to celebrate the Goddess, the feminine principle of the divine and take action to practice magic and transform our dreams into reality.

In this article, we present the magic of the moon in 10 different rituals for you to enjoy the flow of the moon. Before we present them, we give a brief introduction to the secrets of the moon, revealing its dark side and giving tips on the energies of the Full Moon.Check them out.

More about the moon and its phases

Contrary to popular belief, there are 8 phases of the moon: new moon, crescent, crescent quarter, gibbous crescent, full moon, gibbous waning, waning quarter and waning.

Each of these phases occur at specific periods in the lunar cycle and directly influence our lives. Understand how they occur and how the lunar calendar works below.

How do the phases of the moon occur?

The phases of the moon occur depending on the position of this star in relation to the earth and the sun. When the moon moves around the earth, part of it, more precisely its half, ends up reflecting the sunlight permanently, while the other lunar half remains completely dark.

The part of the moon that can be seen from Earth is the part that is always illuminated by the Sun. Since the moon moves, the level of brightness observed varies throughout the month, so we see different lunar phases.

For example, when the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, the side of the Moon that is being illuminated by the Sun cannot be observed on Earth. We call the period when the Moon is completely dark and New Moon. The process by which the Moon acquires different phases is called the lunar cycle, which will be described below.

How is the lunar cycle?

The lunar cycle is the period when the moon goes through all phases, starting from the New Moon to the next New Moon. When the moon moves around the Earth, you can notice a change in the degree of brightness of the portion of the visible moon that is directly illuminated by the Sun.

The lunar cycle, i.e. the period extending from New Moon to New Moon occurs in about 29.5 days. Despite this, the moon takes approximately 27.3 days to make one revolution around the orbit of planet Earth.

The lunar cycle is commonly segmented into four main phases, phases known as: new moon, crescent moon, full moon and waning moon. In terms of time, the longest period between full and new moon lasts about 15 days, while the shortest period lasts almost 14 days.

Lunar calendars in the ancient world

Lunar calendars were widely adopted in the ancient world. By observing the moon, many peoples were able to develop a timekeeping system known as the lunar calendar. Each lunar calendar, as the name suggests, is based on the phases of the moon and its cycles to measure the passage of time.

Peoples inhabiting the British Isles, parts of Asia such as China, and even Amerindian and African peoples used the lunar calendar to measure time. Currently, much of the world's population uses the Gregorian calendar, considered a solar time measurement system, since it is based on the movement of the sun.

Because they follow lunar cycles, the months of lunar calendars are shorter. This is because each lunar cycle is completed in about 29.5. Consequently, the lunar months in these calendars alternate between 29 and 30 days and are therefore shorter than calendars that are based on the movements of the Sun.

Full moon

When the Full Moon is full, the visible part of the Moon is completely illuminated. Since it is in opposition to the Sun, it shows its illuminated face to Earth and therefore we can see it. In this phase, the Moon rises very close to the time when the Sun sets. Understand what it favors and its energies below.

Favors

The Full Moon favours the exposure of emotions but it is important to be careful as many people lose control during this phase. It is a period of intensity, when the animalistic spirit is more latent, so people tend to reveal who they are and act on impulse, without thinking about the consequences of their actions.

The Full Moon is also the propitious time for love, passion, fertility and for sexual practice. Besides, since it is a period of intense impulsiveness, you will be more prone to spend more, so it is good to control yourself to avoid problems.

This phase also marks, a time of change. It is time to reap what you have planted and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Disfavors

The full moon puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to making important decisions. Its intense energy prevents rational and logical thinking as emotions are running high. It is also not a suitable time for surgery as this moon favours bleeding.

If you are planning to go on a diet, the full moon is not suitable. Generally speaking, it favours fluid retention and so you may feel more bloated. In addition, the desire to eat is increased under the influence of its rays.

Another area unfavored during this phase is tourism. Travel over sea (both air and sea travel) should be avoided. Also, beware of traffic accidents as tempers are exacerbated, which will cause more accidents.

Humor and beauty

The mood during the Full Moon is usually very intense as people's feelings are at their peak. Sexual desire is also increased and you will notice how people dress in a sexier and more provocative way. This time of the year is usually marked by violent crimes, including crimes of a sexual nature.

Because it is a very emotional phase, you are probably more agitated and sensitive, especially if you are of a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) or have these signs in your birth chart.

Melancholic feelings, anxiety and agitation are also marks of this phase. Due to the high luminosity, you will be more susceptible to insomnia during this phase. In the field of beauty, it is an ideal time to cut your hair if you want it to be fuller or more voluminous. However, it will grow more slowly. The Full Moon also favors the hydration and moisturizing of the hair strands.

Love and relationships

At the Full Moon, the height of love energy is reached. If you started a relationship during the new phase of the moon, you will notice how it will become more intense during the full moon.

As this is an intense Moon, be aware of your emotions. You may be more susceptible to fights as feelings get much more confused during this period of the lunar cycle. Avoid emotional stress, act sparingly and be willing to listen to what your partner has to say. When stressed, think twice before you act.

The full moon strengthens sexual desire, so you will probably feel more like being with someone (or more than one partner) during this lunar phase. If you want a honeymoon filled with passion and sensuality, this is the ideal phase for you. Also, getting married during the full moon encourages a more intense marriage.

Work and finance

The Full Moon is a productive time in the field of work and finance. All your work done during the previous lunar phases begin to bear fruit and give results.

Just like the moon, this is the time to show your potential. You can take the opportunity to invest in advertising your products, services or establishment so that your finances can shine just like the moon in the sky. Avoid spending money as remember that the full moon does not favour rational thinking and it stimulates people's impulsive nature.

Consequently the Full Moon is not an ideal time for closing deals or making negotiations, as your mind may be troubled or dazzled by what you see shining but forget that behind that light there is a hidden face. Great care, therefore, when signing contracts.

In the following sections, we present different types of rituals that can be practiced by you during the Full Moon. By performing them, you will benefit from the maximum lunar energy, characteristic of this phase.

Wiccan Full Moon Ritual for Goddess

Part of the ritualistic calendar of Wicca, a form of Modern Witchcraft devised by Gerald Gardner, includes the celebration of 13 lunar festivals, which preferably occur during the Full Moon period. 2) honor the feminine principle of divinity, called the Goddess;

Ingredients

Light the incense and candle. Take a deep breath in and exhale, relaxing briefly. Then call upon the Goddess:

Moon goddess,

Lady of the Sacred,

Show me Your ways,

In this enchanted ritual.

Teach me the magic,

Heal my sacred feminine,

Whose existence is so oppressed

By the force of the patriarchy.

May I shine like the moon in my darkness,

And may the magic inside me never fade,

For so is my wish,

And so be it done!

When you have finished reciting these words, watch the moon. Then, undo the circle, letting the candle and incense burn to the end. Leave the flowers in a spot in nature, offering it to the goddess while the moon is shining.
